China is becoming the focus of connectors and cable assemblies

With the migration of global electronic manufacturing service providers (EMS) to the Chinese market, China is becoming the global electronic manufacturing center. As a major consumer of electronic components, China's total imports of connector products last year reached 1.62 billion dollars. At the same time, connector and cable component suppliers have also followed their customers to move to Chinese Mainland, strengthening China's connector and cable production capacity. According to the data of fleck research, a professional research company, the total output value of connectors, cable components and backplanes produced in China reached 8.6 billion US dollars in 2001, accounting for 26.9% of the global total output; It is estimated that by 2006, the total output value of such products produced in China will reach 17.4 billion US dollars, accounting for 36.6% of the total global output.

Nearly 1000 connector manufacturers support more than 1/4 of the global output. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Information Industry, at present, there are more than 600 formal manufacturers of connectors and cable components in mainland China, of which Taiwan funded companies account for 37.5%, European and American companies account for 14.1%, and the number of connector manufacturers of foreign brands exceeds 50%.

This brings huge competitive pressure to local connector and cable manufacturers. Connector companies in mainland China are generally small, mainly focusing on labor-intensive products, such as wire harnesses, end pieces, microswitches, power cords, plugs and sockets. High and middle end products are mainly controlled by manufacturers in Taiwan and Europe and the United States. As more and more international companies enter China, it is expected that the Chinese connector market will see the survival of the fittest and a large number of mergers. The development trend is that the total output will continue to rise while the number of suppliers will decrease.

In the face of numerous brands and products, on the one hand, Chinese connector buyers can have more choice opportunities, but on the other hand, they do not know where to start when facing the tide of products. The purpose of this special issue is to enable Chinese buyers to find the selection principles among many products and to select their own needs calmly.

Although the connector is not the leading role on the equipment, it is an important supporting role. IC is like the heart of a device. Connectors and cables are the hands and feet of the device. Hands and feet are extremely important for the development of the complete function of the device. Editor of International Electronic Business: Sun Changxu is following this trend with the development of electronic equipment to a higher speed and smaller size. It is expected that chip connectors, optical fiber connectors, IEEE1394 and USB2.0 high-speed connectors, wired broadband connectors and thin pitch connectors for various portable/wireless products will be popular products in the future.

Optical fiber connectors will be the field with rapid growth in the future. It is estimated that the annual growth rate will exceed 30%. The development trend is that small optical fiber connectors (SFF) will gradually replace the traditional FC/SC connectors; The demand for surface mount connectors used in portable devices such as mobile phones / PDS is very large, and it is estimated that the market demand in China will reach 880 million in 2002; The USB2.0 connector is replacing the USB1.1 connector to become the mainstream of the market, and the demand greatly exceeds the 1394 connector; Connectors used for inter board connection will develop towards 0.3mm/0.5mm thin foot pitch. This special issue will provide purchasers with reference for selection from various aspects.
